Drumroll...
First meeting of the fall on Wednesday, September 9!
The first meeting of the season will be a DTR of sorts, in which we will welcome everybody back, find out what your writing goals are for the year, and decide how we can help you get there. Whether you're new and don't know any of us, or you've been waiting in agony all summer for us to start up again, come! No actual relationship discussions/screaming fights will occur (we hope).
When: next Wednesday, September 9, 7:00pm.
Where: Aurora's place: 601 W 163rd St, Apt 6E, in Manhattan (take the A to 168th for express, or the C or 1 if you don't really care or want to be fashionably late).
If you have something you want to workshop, bring it. If not, bring a favorite passage written by someone else, or anything you want to read to us. Also, if you have any nice rocks, Aurora's new fish Herman is accepting housewarming gifts for his bowl..
The Re:WritE Review, Issue 2: Open for Submissions!
Submissions period: September 1 - November 15
For this issue we are accepting fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and plays. Please keep poetry submissions under 12 pages, and everything else under 5000 words. Send your work to rewritenyc@gmail.com. You are highly encouraged to submit early, even if you're only at the stage of an early draft, so that you'll have plenty of time to revise in case we have any suggestions for you. Priority is given to writers who attend or have attended ReWritE workshops, though we love to include guest writers as well.
Re:WritE Review Spatu-licious Short Story Contest!
Give yourself a shot at instantaneous fame and glory: write a story for our new contest!
Here are the rules:
Winning stories will be printed in Issue 2, and the winners will each receive a free copy of the book.
Send your entries to rewritenyc@gmail.com.
Deadline: November 15.
500 words or less.
A minimum of 3 characters must be physically present.
You must include at least 1 line of dialogue.
A character has to take off his/her shoes.
A character must be wearing an article of clothing that reveals something about his/her personality.
Your story must include a spatula.
Hint: For the best shot at winning, do yourself a favor and work these elements as seamlessly as possible into your story.
Example of what NOT to write:
John, Mark and Luke were in Jesus' kitchen, when Jesus said, "John, take off your shoes." So John took off his shoes. Jesus was wearing a white robe which reveals that he was innocent. Then Luke took a spatula and made everybody pancakes.
We at the Review offices eagerly await your high-caliber spatula stories and other submissions. =) In the meantime, see you next Wednesday!
Happy writing,
Re:WritE Yearbook Staff.

Welcome to Re:WritE!
We are local and global and independent.
What we offer is a new writing lifestyle that preserves the necessarily independent act of writing but that insists on the strength of community. Weekend writing seminars are not enough. Our belief is that beautiful, original writing will arise from a combination of work-shopping, craft study, and community.
This is a call for weekend warriors and late night bloggers to come out of the literary closet and join a collection of fellow artists who are committed to each other’s success and growth.
We encourage all levels of involvement. If you want to join one of our writing circles, then we are for you. If you want to exchange your finished text for critique with another author, then we are for you. If you want to be published in our Review, we are for you. If you want opportunities to read your work publicly then we are for you.
This movement is artistically broad. We hope that what begins as a movement of writers will encourage other artists of every aesthetic discipline to cluster around us so that our community will expand into something more creatively holistic.
So grab your pen and your Moleskine and join us in this adventure. We’d love to meet you.
